SD-WAN software defines wide area network

What is SD-WAN?

  • SD-WAN is a comprehensive solution consisting of many components, but it does not include traditional, proprietary MPLS links and TCP-linked book-based WAN optimization.
  • It is more than just a multi-link WAN with path control.
  • It’s not just the last mile solution for cloud gateways to provide caching and acceleration technology for applications.
  • It is not just a multi-faceted integrated packet switched network and optical network in the backbone network.
  • It is not just a private, dark fiber network that bypasses telecom operators.

SD-WAN features are as follows

Overview, SD-WAN

  • Virtualized network
  • Strengthen security coverage
  • Simplify service distribution
  • Provide interoperability
  • Changing the cost effect of hardware
  • Support for an automated business policy framework
  • Monitor usage and performance
  • Support interoperability and open networks
  • Enable management service

The following sections describe the above functions in detail.

Virtualized network

SD-WAN as a network overlay enables application traffic to be transmitted independently of the underlying physical layer or transport layer, providing a superposition of transmissions. Multiple links, even from different service providers, form a unified pool of resources, often referred to as a virtual WAN.

This feature enables SD-WAN to provide high availability and high performance for applications. It also increases resource utilization and simplifies the network.
