SD-WAN service specification
SD-WAN service specification describes the requirements of application-aware, over-the-top WAN connectivity services that use policies to determine how to forward application flows through the network infrastructure.
From the press release:
SD-WAN service standardization will enable a wide range of ecosystem stakeholders to use the same terminology when purchasing, selling, evaluating, deploying, and delivering SD-WAN services. The SD-WAN service definition is the fundamental step in accelerating sales, market adoption and certification of MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services, which are organized by the global ecosystem of automation networks.
The MEF said the plan targets four goals:
● Reduce market confusion about service components, core functions and related concepts, saving valuable time.
• Enable service providers and technology providers to focus on providing a core set of common capabilities that can then evolve to produce differentiated products.
• Facilitate the integration of SD-WAN services into a standardized LSO architecture to facilitate the coordination of MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services across multiple providers.
• Pave the way for the establishment and implementation of SD-WAN service certification, which helps users believe that the service meets a set of basic requirements.
The MEF launched a certification program called 3.0 SD-WAN Service Certification to ensure SD-WAN services meet minimum specifications. The pilot program will be launched in the first half of 2019 to test a set of service attributes and their behavior as defined in the SD-WAN.
